Powerful Health Benefits of Green Tea

When you're looking for a health-promoting, antioxidant rich beverage, look no further than green tea. Green tea comes from the leaves and buds of the Camellia sinensis plant. There are two potent antioxidant compounds within green tea. Antioxidants are vitally important to help neutralize cancer-promoting free radicals in the body. Two powerful antioxidants in green tea are epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG,) and L-Theanine.

EGCG has been shown to suppress cancerous cell growth, especially in hepatocellular carcinoma and breast carcinomas. EGCG also can suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines that can cause significant health challenges throughout the body relating to immunity and detoxification. EGCG can also contribute to a health gut lining, warding off the susceptibility of one developing leaky gut syndrome. Leaky gut leads to a chronic inflammatory state in the body, which has been shown to be the contributing cause to autoimmune conditions.

L-Theanine is an amino acid and antioxidant found in the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. This antioxidant has capabilities of promoting relaxation in the body without they typically-affiliated drowsiness. L-Theanine can also provide elevations in mood as well as cognitive enhancements.

Health experts say drinking between three to five cups per day seems to yield the most optimal results. Green tea does contain some caffeine, which makes it a more suitable beverage in the morning and early to mid afternoon.
